Stefan Goldmann
Stefan Goldmann is the founder of Macro. The Berlin native began releasing stripped-down techno and house for labels in the UK and US in the early 2000’s. After having appeared on Perlon, Cocoon and Innervisions with influential releases, he founded Macro Recordings with Finn Johannsen in 2007. The label discovered artists such as Elektro Guzzi, KUF and L’estasi Dell’oro, released albums by KiNK, Patrick Cowley and Oliver Ho as well as EPs by Peter Kruder and Santiago Salazar among others. Remixes came from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and The Knife’s Oni Ayhun. Stefan’s tracks such as Sleepy Hollow, Lunatic Fringe, The Maze or Fossil Water entered the reader’s polls of RA and Groove Mag in several years.
Since 2006 Stefan has been playing at Panorama Bar Berlin. For the Berghain club he also developed the Elektroakustischer Salon events, writes a regular column for its flyer program and is the co-author of its book ‘Berghain 10‘. Stefan Goldmann has performed at festivals such as Mutek Montreal, Time Warp Mannheim, Star Festival Osaka, Only Connect Oslo, Club To Club Torino and many more and is touring regularly throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. Macro label nights have been held in Berlin, London, Paris, Vienna, Tokyo and New York.
But Stefan’s artistic reach goes well beyond clubland. He has scored a film, collaborated with ensembles, choreographers and visual artists, and has written a book. His numerous special projects range from intimate solo performances such as the concert at Kyoto’s iconic Honen-In Temple to large-scale events staged at arts festivals.
His DJ sets are smart, imaginative and highly danceable, reflecting his rich history as a producer and label owner. With an emphasis on reduced techno, he throws in records from other backgrounds, meeting Macro’s anthems such as Iscariotic Lips or Sintezator.
